Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly held talks with Christian Eriksen over a potential move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
Eriksen will see his current deal with Tottenham Hotspur expire at the end of the current season.
The Denmark international had been linked with a switch to United in the early stages of August, but the window closed with the playmaker remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer personally spoke with the 27-year-old over a possible move to the Red Devils, but Eriksen is said to have confirmed that he wanted to move to Spain.
Real Madrid have been strongly linked with a swoop for the former Ajax youngster, who could still complete a move to the Bernabeu over the next couple of weeks.
Juventus, meanwhile, have also been credited with an interest in Eriksen, who would be free to discuss terms with foreign clubs in January if he does not sign a new contract in London.
