Arsene Wenger: 'I tried to sign Paul Pogba for Arsenal'

Arsene Wenger reveals that he tried to sign Paul Pogba when the French midfielder left Manchester United in 2012.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he tried to lure Paul Pogba away from Manchester United before the youngster joined Juventus.

Pogba left Old Trafford in 2012 after being told by Sir Alex Ferguson that he wasn't going to feature regularly in the first team.

Although Wenger attempted to secure a move for the central midfielder, the Frenchman has said that they were not allowed to do so within the laws of the game.

"We were interested by Pogba when he was at Manchester United," Wenger told BeIn Sport. "I was surprised to see them let him go.

"We tried to get him, but it was complicated. We did not have the right to contact him."

Since leaving United, Pogba has gone on to nail down a regular starting place for both Juventus and France.
