Steve McClaren demands Newcastle United response

Steve McClaren insists that Newcastle United need to produce a response after failing to record a win in their opening five Premier League games.

Steve McClaren has demanded a response from his Newcastle United players as they continue their search for a first Premier League win of the season.

The Magpies have scored just two league goals, and McClaren's side suffered their third defeat of the campaign in a 2-0 loss to West Ham United on Monday night.

Watford will visit St James' Park on Saturday afternoon, and McClaren has hinted that changes will be made as he reacts to their poor run.

"After Monday, any player could be a bit worried," the Newcastle boss told reporters. "We haven't scored goals or looked like scoring goals.

"We need a reaction - no excuses. St James' Park has to be a fortress and a difficult place for Watford to come and play."

Newcastle have won just once in 16 league games since March.
