Steven Taylor admits that he is "devastated" to have suffered a potential season-long injury but reveals he won't rush back to fitness.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has revealed that he is "devastated" at suffering an Achilles injury, but has insisted that he will take time to regain fitness.

The Magpies confirmed that the 25-year-old is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season following the injury he picked up during the side's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

"I'm absolutely devastated," Taylor told the Evening Chronicle. "I've been here before with my shoulder injury, and I'm just focused on working hard and getting back after the operation.

"I've just got to get myself fit again. There's no time limit, I'll be ready when I'm ready. There's no point rushing it - I've just got to make sure I'm right."

Taylor will undergo surgery this week.
