Alex Pritchard penalty gives Brentford win over Norwich City

A second-half Alex Pritchard penalty earns Brentford a slender 2-1 victory over home side Norwich City in the Championship.

Alex Pritchard's second-half penalty handed promotion-chasing Brentford three vital points against Norwich City this afternoon, with the Bees winning 2-1 at Carrow Road to climb into fourth spot in the Championship.

Brentford should have gone ahead early on when Pritchard carved out a perfect through-ball onto Andre Gray, but the striker was thwarted by a bobble in the pitch as his effort flew high and wide.

Back came Norwich, though, as Redmond whipped a ball across the pitch to find the on-rushing Gary Hooper, who was unable to beat David Button down at his bottom-left corner.

Pritchard looked enterprising in the first period and he was on hand again to pick out Brentford's Stuart Dallas in the box, but he could only lash his effort over the bar from inside the area.

The visitors took the lead in the 21st minute and it came via a perfectly-worked team effort, which started with Gray, who broke away before finding Jota, who produced a world-class finish into the bottom corner past John Ruddy.

Parity wasn't too last too long, though, as Redmond equalised in the 27th minute with a deflected shot that evaded Button and nestled into the bottom corner.

Ruddy was the early hero in the second half when he produced a standout save to deny Jonathan Douglas after he was played in by an industrious Gray.

The Bees were given the chance to go back in front in the 71st minute when Carlos Cuellar brought down Gray inside the area, leaving Pritchard to step up and lash home high into the centre of goal.

Brentford were then thankful for keeper Button, who reacted wonderfully to keep out Cameron Jerome's rebounded effort after Bradley Johnson had originally hit the crossbar from range, as the game ended 2-1 in favour of Mark Warburton's men.
