English officials handed Champions League ties

Martin Atkinson and Mark Clattenburg will referee the two Champions League ties on Wednesday night.

UEFA have confirmed that English referees will be in charge of Wednesday night's two Champions League last-16 encounters.

Forty-three-year-old Martin Atkinson will take the whistle in Germany as Schalke 04 play host to holders Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, his compatriot Mark Clattenburg, 39, has been selected to officiate the clash between Basel and Porto in Switzerland.

Both men refereed three encounters each during the group stages last year.
