Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has admitted that he was "surprised" to see Iker Casillas named on the bench for Real Madrid's opening La Liga match of the season on Sunday.
Casillas, who spent five months out of the side under Jose Mourinho last season, has once more consigned to the bench in Madrid's 2-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday.
"I was surprised that Casillas was a substitute. At the Confederations Cup he did quite well after a difficult personal situation and months without playing," the 31-year-old told El Mundo Deportivo.
"I've seen Iker do the impossible, for me he is the best. I'm surprised by this decision, but it's not my club and I have not much to say about that. But he is the best. I would like to see him play more, it's a challenge for me to face him."
Casillas has made 654 appearances for Madrid.
