Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes that it is "vital" for the club that Cristiano Ronaldo does not leave in the summer.
The Portuguese forward has been linked with moves to his former club Manchester United and French giants Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.
"It would be fantastic for the club and vital [if Ronaldo stays]," Mourinho told TV1 "When you have a player with his characteristics, you have to do all that is possible not to lose him.
"It's obvious that he can play wherever he wants to play. It would be good for Real Madrid as well as Ronaldo if he stays."
Madrid president Florentino Perez said earlier this week that the club are ready to offer an improved contract to keep hold of Ronaldo.
