Howard Webb has praised the crowd at White Hart Lane after they witnessed the collapse of Fabrice Muamba on Saturday.
Over 35,000 fans looked on in horror as Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup tie with Bolton Wanderers.
Referee Webb has attracted praise for the way he handled the situation, and for calling off the match.
"My overriding memory is of the crowd reaction to it all when, suddenly, they all realised the seriousness of the situation," the 40-year-old referee said.
"When the doctor arrived and started working on Fabrice, the crowd reaction was amazing, it was as if they were almost pushing with the doctor and willing him to get Fabrice's heart going.
"The crowd really were pushing for him, they were chanting Fabrice's name - I've never known anything like it, because the crowd reaction to that, and afterwards, was amazing."
Muamba remains in intensive care, where he is making steady progress.
