Hamburg have reportedly abandoned their efforts to re-sign Tottenham Hotspur's Rafael van der Vaart.
The Daily Mail reports that the German club were forced to end their interest in the Dutch international after billionaire benefactor Klaus-Michael Kuehne refused to fund the deal.
Van der Vaart was on the brink of securing a £9.5m return to Hamburg, but the latest development could mean that the transfer is officially dead.
Van der Vaart joined Spurs in 2010, making 77 appearances and scoring 28 goals for the club.
