Manchester City are allegedly contemplating whether to try to secure reunions with Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro and Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Manchester City are reportedly considering whether to try to secure reunions with each of Pedro Porro and Douglas Luiz.

Pep Guardiola is currently bidding to become the first manager to win the Premier League title for a fourth successive season.

However, after an inconsistent first half of 2023-24, City sit behind Liverpool in the standings, albeit by just the two points.

While City remain favourites to defend their top-flight crown and lift another Champions League trophy, Guardiola will be assessing ways to improve his squad for 2024-25.

At right-back, Kyle Walker turns 34 years of age in May, while understudy Rico Lewis has been used in central midfield as much as he has on the flank.

Meanwhile, an alternative will be required for Kalvin Phillips, either this month or the summer, courtesy of the England international being out of favour at the Etihad Stadium.

Although there is interest in a loan switch before the end of January, City ideally want to part ways with Phillips on a permanent basis as soon as possible.

According to Football Insider, City are considering whether they should attempt to re-sign each of Porro and Luiz.

The pair now represent Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa respectively, and are far closer to the finished articles than when they were previously contracted to City.

In his opening 12 months at Spurs, Porro has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, contributing three goals and 11 assists from 35 appearances in the division.

Meanwhile, Luiz is a key part of Villa's surprise Premier League title charge, chipping in with six goals and three assists from 20 top-flight outings this campaign.

City generated a total of £22m from the sales of the pair in the past, yet they would be expected to pay in excess of £100m if they wanted to re-sign them in the summer.

Porro's reputation has only been enhanced since Spurs committed to paying £40m for his signature, while Luiz would cost in excess of £50m, despite his contract at Villa being due to expire in 2026.
