St Mirren midfielder Edwards calls for big game mentality against Dundee

The Buddies have lost their last seven matches.

Ryan Edwards wants St Mirren to adopt the Old Firm approach when they face relegation battlers Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday.

The Buddies have lost their last seven matches after carving out a goalless draw against Celtic in Oran Kearney’s first game as manager following the departure of Alan Stubbs.

The 24-year-old Australia attacker, on loan from Hearts, noted that the Paisley side also played well against Rangers last week, despite going down 2-0 to the Ibrox men.

St Mirren are second-bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership, one point ahead of the Dark Blues, and Edwards wants the Paisley side to take the big-game attitude to Tayside.

He said: “Look at the league table and the way the results have gone for both teams, it is a massive game.

“If we can get three three points hopefully it can spark the season for us and start a run of games where we can get points on the board.

“Everything I am saying, the players in the Dundee dressing room will be thinking the exact same.

“Looking at our two really good performances for the whole 90 minutes since the new manager has come in was against the Old Firm.

“It is easy to get up for a game against Celtic, they will bring fans, it is on television , a night game, it is fantastic to be part of.

“If we can bring that level of performance to every team we play against, starting with Dundee on Saturday, it will help us massively.

“If you can bring that and get yourself up for that game as a team against Dundee away it will help us massively to get the points.”
