Swansea City manager Garry Monk wary of Newcastle United attacking threat

Garry Monk says that he is wary of the attacking qualities at Newcastle United, but is confident that Swansea City can cause problems for Steve McClaren's side.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has admitted that he is wary of the attacking threat offered by Newcastle United under Steve McClaren.

The Magpies, who finished 15th in the Premier League last season, drew 2-2 with Southampton in their first game of the season last weekend as Papiss Cisse and debutant Georginio Wijnaldum both picked up goals.

Monk says that he is aware of Newcastle's qualities, but is confident that his own side can cause problems after picking up a draw against Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

"They are very strong attacking wise - Sissoko, Obertan, Cisse started against Southampton and then Mitrovic came on," he told reporters. "They are very strong going forward and we will have to defend well.

"We can cause problems and it's our job to cause more problems than they can. If we produce that attacking threat we know we have got the players that can hurt teams so its up to us to impose ourselves on them more than they do us.

"But it will be extremely hard, it is not going to be easy at all and last week I've reminded the players that we deserve credit but we have to stay grounded and they understand that. It is one game, one point and the fight now is to try and produce that performance every game."

Swansea and Newcastle meet at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
