Walsall have confirmed recent speculation that they turned down an approach from Rotherham United regarding the availability of their manager Dean Smith.
Championship outfit Rotherham have been without a boss since Steve Evans departed the New York Stadium last week.
They had hoped to discuss the vacancy with the 44-year-old, but their proposal has been "categorically rejected" by their League One counterparts.
"In response to recent media speculation, the club can confirm it received an approach from a Championship club for permission to speak to manager Dean Smith. This approach was categorically rejected," read a statement on the Walsall's official website
"As one of the longest-serving managers in the country, Dean has been instrumental in the club's progress since his appointment and is fundamental to our future plans."
This season, Smith has guided the Saddlers to second position in the League One table.
