Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that his players can control their own destiny in their bid for Premier League survival.
The Latics, who host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, are currently bottom of the table.
Despite the disappointing campaign, Martinez believes that his players can draw on their past experiences at the foot of the table to turn their fortunes around.
"We would prefer to be in a different position but the truth is we know what to expect and we know what to do and we can control our destiny by performing well," he said.
"The last campaign was a really good experience. The youngsters at our football club are ready to cope with what's ahead of us and that's a real strength.
"Experience is a big word and sometimes it's difficult to describe it but clearly it's a strength now."
Wigan can move out of the relegation zone with a win against the Baggies this weekend.
