Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez will reportedly return for Barnsley defender John Stones this month.

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has reportedly made Barnsley defender John Stones his top transfer target in the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best young defenders in English football, was the subject of a £1m bid from the Latics earlier in the month.

That offer was rejected by the Championship outfit, but according to talkSPORT, Martinez is prepared to return with an improved offer for the defender.

A host of Premier League clubs are also understood to be monitoring proceedings.
