Barbarians to play Samoa in first rugby union match at London's Olympic Stadium

Barbarians will take on Samoa in the first rugby union match to be hosted at London's Olympic Stadium on August 29.

London's Olympic Stadium will host its first rugby union match between Barbarians and Samoa on August 29.

The fixture at the venue is part of England Rugby 2015's testing programme ahead of the World Cup, which will hold five games of the tournament at the Olympic ground.

Barbarians president Micky Steele-Bodger told the club's official website: "It is a significant honour for the Barbarians to take part in the first rugby match at the Olympic Stadium.

"The match should be a great spectacle for supporters and we hope to light up the stadium with the Barbarians brand of rugby in our first match against Samoa."

Coach Stephen Betham added: "It is a great privilege for the Samoan Rugby Union to play the Barbarians in the run up to Rugby World Cup 2015. Not only will it be our first ever match against the Baa-baas, but at the Olympic Stadium too, it will certainly be a historical moment for us."

Barbarians will compete in four other matches over the year to commemorate their 125th anniversary.
