Jonny Wilkinson insists that he would do everything possible to answer a call to the British and Irish Lions squad if added as a late injury replacement.

Jonny Wilkinson has declared that he would be delighted to receive a late call to represent the British and Irish Lions in Australia this summer.

Wilkinson was left out of Warren Gatland's initial squad for the tour Down Under, despite displaying impressive form for Toulon that saw him named European Player of the Year last weekend.

After helping Toulon win their first Heineken Cup on Saturday, Wilkinson has insisted that he would be happy to join the Lions squad as an injury replacement if asked.

He told BBC Sport: "I've been asked if I'll be an injury replacement. I've said quite happily. I'm happy to give it all I've got. If I can physically front up to being there if there's an injury, then great.

"Let me get to the end of the season and see if I'm not the one who needs replacing, rather than the one who goes out there. I can't guarantee the state I'll be in. The body is getting to the state where I am trying to stay [at this level]."

Gatland's Lions leave for Hong Kong on Monday ahead of their first tour match on Saturday, June 1.
