Jelena Jankovic has progressed to the third round of the Italian Open after her second-round opponent Svetlana Kuznetsova was forced to retire through injury.
The Serbian dominated the contest on a chilly evening in Rome, easing to a 6-2 win in the first set as the Russian struggled to keep up with the pace.
Jankovic began the second set in commanding fashion, storming into a 4-0 lead before Kuznetsova suffered an injury to her right hip was adjudged unfit to see out the game.
The extent of Kuznetsova's injury is yet to be confirmed.
