Stefano Okaka happy after Anderlecht move, second Italy call-up

Former Roma, Fulham and Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka says that his decision to leave Serie A to play for Belgian giants Anderlecht has paid off.

Stefano Okaka has said that his decision to leave Serie A to play for Belgian giants Anderlecht has paid off.

A product of the Roma academy, Okaka left Sampdoria for Anderlecht in July and is happy following his second ever call-up to the Italy national squad after impressing this season with eight goals in 19 appearances.

"It's a wonderful experience, in an important team that focuses on young people and that allows you to play on important stages," he told reporters. "I was fortunate to have taken this opportunity and I'm happy.

"They have a great mentality towards young players, with 20-year-olds who have already won a lot. Their winning mentality can also be seen in the national team. In the league there is less pressure and this allows for a more serene environment."

Speaking of Italy manager Antonio Conte, Okaka said: "He continues to evaluate me and keeps me in consideration. This call will allow me to show the coach my quality both in a technical and human sense."

Okaka made his international debut last year against Albania, coming on to score the winner as a second-half substitute.
