Arsenal boss Unai Emery confirms that Alex Iwobi is close to signing a new contract with the Gunners.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed that Alex Iwobi is close to signing a new contract with the Gunners.

Iwobi came through the youth system at Arsenal, and is just two appearances short of 100 for the club.

The 22-year-old has been a regular over the last two seasons, but his future at the Emirates Stadium was believed to be unclear following the arrival of Emery as head coach.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the attacker had agreed a new five-year deal worth £70,000 a week, and Emery has now confirmed that an announcement is close.

"I have the information - he's near," Emery told reporters.

Iwobi scored three times and registered seven assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for his London club during the 2017-18 campaign.
