Paul Lambert believes that new signing Christian Benteke only showed a glimpse of his potential in a goalscoring debut for Aston Villa against Swansea City last weekend.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has declared that he is delighted with the impact of Belgian striker Christian Benteke.

The Belgian starlet scored on his Villa debut as Lambert's side got their first win of the campaign with a 2-0 success against Swansea City.

Lambert has insisted that Benteke still needs time to settle but is excited to see what the young forward is capable of.

The Villa boss said: "Benteke is only 21, that's what you have to remember, he's only a kid and he's just starting his career.

"But his role in the last 15 minutes or so against Swansea was excellent. He came over after playing a hard game for his national team in the week. Coming back and playing for us, doing what he did, was excellent.

"There's no two ways about it, he's a big presence up there and his presence alone will unnerve a few people. I was delighted with his contribution against Swansea, as I was with everybody's. The whole team was excellent."

Villa go in search of consecutive Premier League victories this weekend when they take on Southampton.
