Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood: 'West Bromwich Albion deserved to win'

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood admits that West Bromwich Albion were the better side in the Midlands derby.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has admitted that West Bromwich Albion deserved to beat his side following the Baggies' 1-0 win at Villa Park.

The Villans boss conceded that his team was poor during the Midlands derby, but vowed to reverse the club's fortunes.

"West Brom deserved to win the game to be perfectly honest. We showed a little more appetite in the second period but didn't create too many clear-cut chances. We are disappointed but we know where the problems lie and we will try to put it right. I'm sure we will," BBC Sport quotes Sherwood as saying.

"Credit to West Brom, but I recognise the problems at the moment and need to look at it again to make sure I'm not being too emotional. But it's a transition period at this club. The performances haven't been as bad as the result, though today is an exception as I'm disappointed.

"I can look into the eyes of my players and know they are on side."

Saido Berahino scored the goal that put Villa to the sword, moving the Baggies up to mid-table and Villa down to 17th place.
