Aston Villa's Rudy Gestede: 'We have belief we can survive'

Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede says that his side are upbeat that they can stay in the Premier League, despite their torrid start to the campaign.

Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede has insisted that his side are confident they can survive in the Premier League this season.

The Villans have endured a torrid start to the campaign, recording just one victory which came on the opening day against Bournemouth.

The club sacked Tim Sherwood and replaced him with Remi Garde, who drew with Manchester City in his first game in charge but then saw his team hammered 4-0 by Everton on Saturday.

Gestede told the club's official website: "We are in the Premier League and we have to do everything we can to stay there. It won't be easy. We didn't start well but there are still plenty of games to play and plenty of points to take.

"Nothing is finished. We have to keep going. We have to keep working in training - and improve. We have a new manager in Remi Garde. He has his plan in his head and wants to put this on to the pitch.

"We are going to improve. We are looking to win games. It's a big match for us next weekend. We will fight to get some points. We have the belief - otherwise you can't carry on. We have to pick up some points and make sure we get out of this position."

Villa are bottom of the Premier League after 13 matches this season, five points adrift of safety.
