Franz Beckenbauer believes that having two German teams in the Champions League final bodes well for the national team's chances at the World Cup next year.

Franz Beckenbauer believes that the all German Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich bodes well for the national team's chances in the World Cup next year.

The Germans have finished in third place in the last two World Cups, while they were runners-up in 2002 in Japan and South Korea. The last time Germany won the trophy was in 1990.

Beckenbauer told reporters: "Germany is on its way. Teams like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and the national team are on their way, maybe next year on their way to Brazil to win the World Cup. They have a good chance.

"That means that German football is really on the top."

The Champions League final between the two Bundesliga sides takes place later today at Wembley.
