Bayern Munich's Pep Guardiola: 'Luiz Gustavo chose to leave'

Pep Guardiola says that it was Luiz Gustavo's decision to leave Bayern Munich for Wolfsburg.

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has denied reports that he pushed for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo.

The 26-year-old, who joined the club from Hoffenheim two years ago, agreed a £14m switch to Wolfsburg earlier this week, with rumours suggesting that he did not feature in the plans of the Spanish coach.

"It was his decision to leave Bayern, I would have liked him to stay," Guardiola told a press conference.

"Now I wish him all the best in his career. He was an important player for this club, a great lad."

Arsenal held talks with Gustavo before signing a five-year deal at the Volkswagen Arena.
