Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels has described his side as "pathetic" after another defeat consigned them to the Bundesliga relegation zone.
Last season's runners-up lost for the 10th time this season at Werder Bremen on Saturday, and Hummels is astonished by their staggering fall from grace.
The German international has admitted that Dortmund are clueless as to why things have gone so badly.
"We're all trying to work out what's behind it all," he told reporters. "We've managed pretty well at home in recent weeks, but not at all away.
"It's pretty astonishing that we are so pathetic."
Dortmund will drop to the bottom of the table if Freiburg beat Hannover on Sunday afternoon.
