Bournemouth defender Adam Smith has claimed that referee Jonathan Moss confessed to having made a mistake in booking him for diving instead of awarding a penalty during Sunday's 1-1 draw against Southampton.
Smith was brought down in the box by Saints midfielder Sofiane Boufal just after the half-hour mark at the Vitality Stadium, with the score still goalless at the time.
However, Moss opted to show the Cherries right-back a yellow card for simulation, which will trigger a one-match suspension due to the booking being Smith's fifth of the season.
"For the ref to book me doesn't help because that's my fifth yellow card of the season," Smith told BBC Sport. "I spoke to him after and he apologised and said it was a penalty.
"I don't mind him admitting it but the fact he booked me and can't get it rescinded means I'll miss the next game."
Bournemouth took the lead just before the break through Ryan Fraser but Charlie Austin's equaliser just after the hour meant a share of the spoils.
