Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Accrington Stanley - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Charlton Athletic and Accrington Stanley, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Charlton Athletic will welcome Accrington Stanley to The Valley on Tuesday evening, with the hosts searching for a win that could lift them out of the League One relegation zone.

Meanwhile, the visitors sit in 11th position, and they are currently three points adrift of the playoff places.

Charlton have endured a poor start to the season, only picking up two league victories in their 12 League One games.

As a result of their struggles, Charlton currently sit in 22nd position, are two points adrift of safety, which has led to questions about Nigel Adkins's position as manager.

On Saturday, The Addicks travelled to Lincoln, and the visitors drew level through Sam Lavelle after Jayden Stockley put the ball in his own net early in the second half, but Regan Poole scored to snatch all three points for Lincoln.

Adkins's side have conceded 20 goals this season, and they have conceded at least once in their last nine games in all competitions, which means the Charlton boss needs to find a solution to their defensive woes if his team are to move away from danger.

If Charlton are to climb up the table then they will need to improve at home, and they enter Tuesday winless in their last three league games at The Valley.

Accrington Stanley have had a steady season so far and, as a result, they find themselves in a mid-table position with 16 points to their name.

However, Stanley boss John Coleman will be concerned with his side's form of late, which has seen Accrington Stanley collect just four points from their last six league games.

At the weekend, Accrington Stanley travelled to Cheltenham Town, and the visitors were denied a point when Kyle Vassell scored in the 79th minute to give the hosts a narrow victory.

Like their opponents, Stanley have also struggled defensively, and Coleman will know that if his side are to trouble the playoffs then a defence that has conceded 21 league goals this season will need to improve.

Stanley have only collected four points away from home in League One this term, but they will look to take advantage of a Charlton side low on confidence and collect their second away league victory of the season.

Team News

Charlton are without Ryan Inniss and Jake Forster-Caskey, who are both long-term absentees.

Elliot Lee was withdrawn in the 18th minute at the weekend due to illness, but Adkins will be hopeful that the 26-year-old can start on Tuesday.

Lavelle scored his second league goal of the season at the weekend and the defender will continue to partner Akin Famewo in the centre of defence.

Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Toby Savin has played the last three matches in all competitions and the 21-year-old will keep his place on Tuesday.

Colby Bishop will lead the line once again for the visitors, and the forward will look to add to the three league goals he has scored this season.

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
MacGillivray; Gunter, Lavelle, Famewo, Souare; Leko, Gilbey, Arter, Kirk; Lee, Davison

Accrington Stanley possible starting lineup:
Savin; Sykes, Nottingham, Amankwah; McConville, Conneely, Butcher, Morgan, Hamilton; Pell, Bishop

We say: Charlton Athletic 1-1 Accrington Stanley

Nigel Adkins will know that he needs to start winning games consistently, but having lost three of their last five league matches, Charlton will be low on confidence.

Despite only collecting four points this season on the road, we think Accrington Stanley will have enough to pick up a point on Tuesday.
