Sint-Truiden comfortably overcome Charlton Athletic

Belgian side Sint-Truiden comfortably overcome Charlton Athletic in their pre-season friendly at the Stayen.

Yanis Mbombo's first-half strike and three second-half goals from Edmilson Junior, Mathias Schils and Jean-Luc Dompe were enough for Belgian side Sint-Truiden to overcome Charlton Athletic in a pre-season friendly.

The deadlock was broken 20 minutes into the match, as Mbombo's shot squeezed past Nick Pope in the Addicts net.

Despite conceding early on in the match, it was the Addicks that started the brighter of the two sides, as Simon Makienok's lethal shot went just wide of the post.

Charlton created few chances after conceding, despite Makienok trying to make something happen with some neat link-up play with Tony Watt.

The English side had a penalty appeal turned down after the restart, as Joe Pigott powered into the box, only to be brought down by a tough tackle.

The Addicks continued to pile the pressure on the Belgian side, until Ayo Obileye gave away a penalty with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Edmilson stepped up to take the spot kick and converted it to double his side's lead.

The game was wrapped up five minutes later, as Schills's long range effort flew past Pope in the Addicks net, to make the score 3-0.

Dompe completed the rout in the last minute, as the 19-year-old broke through the Charlton defence with ease to score his side's fourth.
