Chelsea issue Mason Mount injury update

Chelsea affirm that Mason Mount is "on the mend" as the playmaker seeks to return from an ankle injury in time for the EFL Cup final.

Chelsea have posted a positive Mason Mount injury update ahead of next weekend's EFL Cup final with Liverpool.

The English playmaker damaged his ankle during the Blues' successful Club World Cup campaign and did not play a part in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Mount is also expected to miss Tuesday's Champions League last-16 first leg with Lille, and there were suggestions that the 23-year-old could be absent for the clash with the Reds at Wembley.

However, Chelsea have issued a reassuring social media update, with Mount pictured smiling on the treatment table with one of the Blues' medical staff also in good spirits.

Thomas Tuchel claimed over the weekend that Chelsea and Mount would "push" for the midfielder to be fit for the EFL Cup final, with Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Cesar Azpilicueta and Ben Chilwell also injury concerns for the Blues.

Mount has registered seven goals and eight assists in 34 appearances for Chelsea this season, setting up one goal in five EFL Cup matches so far.
