Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri: 'Cesc Fabregas can challenge Jorginho'

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri suggests that Cesc Fabregas is capable of challenging Jorginho for a starting role at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has suggested that he has been left impressed by the performances of Cesc Fabregas.

The Spaniard missed the opening weeks of the season through injury, but the 31-year-old has made an impact on his return against PAOK and Liverpool.

Fabregas is likely to start when Chelsea face Videoton in the Europa League on Thursday night, and Sarri feels that the playmaker is capable of challenging Jorginho for a regular first-team role.

At a press conference, the Italian told reporters: "Yes I think so. I think very well in the last 30 minutes in Greece and very well for 90 minutes in Liverpool.

"He has to improve the physical condition of course but I think that he is a great option in this position. Not changing his style too much because Cesc is very good in moving the ball like Jorginho so we don't need to change the way of football with Fabregas."

Fabregas currently has less than a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
