Chelsea reportedly attempted to sign Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea reportedly made an attempt to sign Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez over the summer.

The 23-year-old was strongly linked with a move away from Inter during the recent transfer window, with Barcelona thought to lead the race for the Argentina international.

The Catalan giants were unable to agree a deal for the striker, though, with the Italian outfit allegedly refusing to drop their asking price, which is thought to have been in excess of £90m.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea also made an enquiry for Martinez, but the South American turned down the opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge.

The report claims that the former Racing Club youngster was only prepared to leave San Siro over the summer to join either Barca or Real Madrid.

Martinez has been in impressive form for Antonio Conte's side at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, finding the back of the net on three occasions in three Serie A appearances.
