England captain Wayne Rooney has revealed that the excitement amongst the players is building ahead of the start of their Euro 2016 campaign.
Roy Hodgson's side will get their tournament underway against Russia on Saturday, bringing an end to weeks of preparation as England look to win a first international trophy for 50 years.
Rooney admitted that the wait is most agonising in the build-up to the opening game and says that the players' anticipation of the tournament is every bit as great as the fans'.
"The longest time in tournaments is always those few weeks in the build-up to the first game, and we're within touching distance of that first game now," he told FATV.
"You can sense the excitement around the team and around the team hotel, and I think you sense that excitement around the country.
"Certainly the fans are doing that but the players are doing exactly the same. We're the ones going out on the pitch and we're the ones who have to go and do it, so hopefully we can and we'll give everyone good memories."
England will also take on Wales and Slovakia in Group B.
