Roy Hodgson says that there is room for improvement after his first game in charge of England.

Roy Hodgson has declared himself happy with England's performance in his first in charge of the national team.

Ashley Young's first-half strike was enough to see the Three Lions to a 1-0 win in Norway this afternoon.

The 64-year-old believes that there is room for improvement but said that he was pleased with his team's discipline in their first Euro 2012 warm-up fixture.

"I think the discipline of the team [was good]," Hodgson told Sky Sports News. "If we are going to criticise ourselves, it is maybe that we could have done a bit more on occasions with the counter attacking chances that we had.

"We did produce a couple of shots that hit the post and a couple of good saves from the keeper, but occasionally after winning the ball back and defending so well we had some great opportunities on the break."

Hodgson said that Andy Carroll has reason to be happy with his performance, further staking his claim for a starting place in their Euro 2012 opener against France.

"I thought he was very good," Hodgson added. "He played a very important role at both ends and I guess he will be very satisfied with his performance and I can only hope that he remains modest enough to go out and do it again the next time he is picked."

Carroll has one goal in his four caps for England.
