England boss Roy Hodgson praises reaction of Raheem Sterling after sending-off

England manager Roy Hodgson says that Raheem Sterling's attitude has been "excellent" since he got sent off against Ecuador.

England manager Roy Hodgson has been full of praise for "unstoppable" Raheem Sterling after the Liverpool star was sent off during a World Cup warm-up match against Ecuador.

The 19-year-old was given his marching orders following a rash challenge on Antonio Valencia during Wednesday's 2-2 draw at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

As a result of the red card, Sterling is unable to feature in tomorrow's friendly against Honduras, but remains in contention to play in England's opening World Cup match against Italy in Manaus on June 14.

"His reaction has been excellent," Hodgson said in a press conference. "He was unstoppable at times in practice and training. He will not lose anything in terms of fitness and the way he plays, the dilemma I have is that I have more than 11 players I think are capable of taking their place in the side against Italy.

"I don't need a performance from him tomorrow to tell me if he is good enough to play against Italy. I am disappointed for him that he got sent off, but it does not affect his chances of playing in the first team when the tournament starts."

England will also face Uruguay and Costa Rica in Group D.
