Hamilton Academical boss Martin Canning bemoans 'avoidable' goals

Hamilton Academical manager Martin Canning insists that his side competed with Celtic during their 2-0 defeat to the champions.

Hamilton Academical player-manager Martin Canning has insisted that his side matched Celtic for the duration of their 2-0 defeat to the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership.

The Accies coach, who selected himself for the game, said that his team would have taken a point from the match had they not conceded "avoidable" goals.

"For 90 minutes, we were in the game. We competed well, I thought the shape of the team was good. It seemed like we had decent chances to score goals, albeit Celtic had a couple themselves," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"I felt it was a pretty even game and we were undone by two goals that, from our point of view, are avoidable."

The result leaves Hamilton in fifth place in the table, while Celtic move to within two points of leaders Aberdeen with a pair of games in hand.
