Half-Time Report: Daryl Murphy brace leaves Ipswich Town in control

Daryl Murphy scores twice early on as Ipswich Town open up a 3-0 lead over Brentford in the Championship.

Daryl Murphy scored twice in the opening 20 minutes as Ipswich Town cruised to a 3-0 lead over Brentford at half time in their Championship clash at Griffin Park this afternoon.

The visitors needed just 20 seconds to break the deadlock as Murphy slotted the ball in with a low finish following a quick break by Paul Anderson.

Jay Tabb had a chance to double their lead within the opening 10 minutes when Tommy Smith curled the ball in from a corner, but his finish was sliced high.

Andre Gray tried to get the Bees back on level terms as he met a Jake Bidwell cross with a header, but the striker could only nod the ball wide, while a Jota effort a few minutes later was comfortably saved by Bartosz Bialkowski.

Ipswich managed to add a second just after as Jonathan Parr sent a looping ball forward for Murphy, who rounded the last defender and keeper before slotting into an empty net.

Murphy could have completed a hat-trick before the break, but he spotted Tabb running forward, leaving him to set up Anderson for Ipswich's third.
