Paul Green strike gives Ipswich Town victory

Paul Green's second-half strike gives Ipswich Town victory in their championship game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Paul Green's second-half strike has given Ipswich Town victory in their Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

Wednesday started brightly, with Michail Antonio forcing a good block from Luke Chambers following a close-range effort.

Strong defending from Wednesday's Glenn Loovens then denied Jonny Williams in the area, with the Ipswich striker ready to pounce.

Tommy Smith opened the scoring 10 minutes before half time when he tapped in despite Owls keeper Damian Martinez producing a fine save to keep out Daryl Murphy's initial effort.

Moments after the goal, Murphy hit the post after cutting inside Joe Mattock.

Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken then denied Antonio and Caolan Lavery with two fingertip saves to preserve his side's advantage just before half time.

Lavery was not to be denied a second time, however, as he slotted home to equalise for the Owls after the break.

Green then put Ipswich back in front when he headed home from Steven Hunt's free kick to give them all three points.
