Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirms that Emre Can will miss Wednesday's Premier League match against Middlesbrough with a knee injury.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Emre Can will miss Wednesday's Premier League match against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The midfielder was not in the squad for Sunday's 2-2 draw with West Ham United, and will not be in the setup for the midweek trip either due to a knee injury.

Can, who suffered the knock during a collision with teammate Divock Origi in training, could return for Monday's Merseyside derby against Everton.

"Emre was injured in a challenge with Divock in training - knee on knee," Klopp told reporters in Monday's press conference. "They both trained for the rest of the session, but Emre was in more pain afterwards. I never heard of this ligament, but he's hurt it.

"He's in doubt for Wednesday, but I think Everton he will be back. It's painful, but not much more."

The Reds currently sit third in the Premier League table, six points off leaders Chelsea after picking up a single point in their last two games.
