Jurgen Klopp: 'Divock Origi could return this season'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that striker Divock Origi could play again this season despite suffering an ankle injury against Everton on Wednesday night.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that striker Divock Origi may return to the first-team squad before the end of the season.

Origi sustained an ankle injury after a late challenge from Ramiro Funes Mori during Liverpool's 4-0 victory over Everton on Wednesday night, and the early suggestions were that the Belgian would miss his team's remaining fixtures.

However, despite acknowledging the severity of the injury, Klopp is optimistic that the 21-year-old could still play a part before the middle of May.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the match with Newcastle United, the 48-year-old said: "It is serious but we should not say his season is over.

"What can I say? We will try everything but we just have to work with him and see what happens."

Origi had been producing his best form of the season with five goals in as many games ensuring that Liverpool reached the Europa League semi-finals and that they maintained their bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League table.
