Liverpool midfielder Stewart Downing has revealed that Brendan Rodgers will let him leave Anfield in January if he decides his future lies elsewhere.
Downing has fallen down the pecking order under Rodgers, making just seven Premier League appearances so far this season.
The England international has also been been used in an unfamiliar left-back role in the Europa League and has admitted that he may need to move on to gain regular first-team football.
He told PA: "The manager has said I can leave if I want to, but I'm trying to play as many games as possible.
"If that does not happen I'm at an age where I can not be sat around. I need to play and the manager understands that."
The 28-year-old moved to Merseyside from Aston Villa in 2011 for a fee in the region of £20m.
