Brendan Rodgers: 'Steven Gerrard will be hard to replace'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that it will be difficult to replace injured captain Steven Gerrard.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted that it will be hard to replace Steven Gerrard in Liverpool's lineup for the next four weeks.

The club's captain will miss at least a month after sustaining a hamstring injury during last week's 4-1 win over West Ham United.

The manager told the team's website: "Steven is a unique player and the captain here at the football club. There's no direct replacement for him.

"His stature in the game and his quality in the game is hard to replace. But we've got players who have been waiting on the side for a long time, and they may well get the opportunity in these coming weeks to go in and show that they can play.

"With only having one game a week, it's been difficult for some of the players. So every player on the sidelines, when they get that opportunity, they will look to take it. It's a test of our squad, but it provides an opportunity for other players and hopefully they will take that chance. This is where we'll find out."

Liverpool travel to Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.
