Brendan Rodgers: "It is a terrific win for us"

Brendan Rodgers hails Liverpool's second-half display against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has described his side's second-half performance against Aston Villa in the Premier League as "excellent".

The Reds went into the break trailing 1-0 courtesy of a strike by Villa striker Christian Benteke, but they managed to secure a 2-1 victory with goals from Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard after the restart.

"We played reasonably well in the first half but we were punished for a mistake. We upped the tempo after the break and we were excellent. It is a terrific win for us. Both teams go right to the end," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

"Our quality was there for all to see, and the rhythm and flow of our passing was improved. Villa went to a diamond and we exploited the space out wide.

"Coutinho's pass for the Henderson goal was superb, and Henderson's determination and desire to make the run was outstanding."

Next up for Rodgers's team is a home encounter against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
