Brendan Rodgers: 'Liverpool are gaining momentum'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers talks up the "exciting" future of a number of players in his squad after their 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers feels that his side is starting to gain momentum after their 1-0 win away to Sunderland on Saturday.

Lazar Markovic's goal was enough for the Reds at the Stadium of Light, and Rodgers talked up what he feels is an "exciting" future for a number of players in his squad.

Rodgers told BT Sport: "Their understanding of the way we're working is getting better and obviously we've still got Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana to come into this group too. So we're happy with how this young team is progressing.

"[Markovic is] a young player who is settling in to the whole culture and as time goes on he's getting better and better. We had great control of the game and the only disappointment was we never got more goals.

"At 1-0 you're going to be asked to defend so it was a great victory for us and we've got momentum. I think our confidence is returning, it's a team that gets better and better as the season goes on."

The victory leaves the Reds eighth in the Premier League.
