John Barnes unsure on Luis Suarez's future at Liverpool

John Barnes believes that Luis Suarez can still leave Liverpool next summer despite signing a new contract at Anfield.

Ex-Liverpool winger John Barnes does not believe that Luis Suarez signing a new contract means that he will stay at Anfield next summer.

The 26-year-old, who asked to leave the club during the last summer transfer window, has scored 19 goals in the Premier League this season despite missing the first six games through suspension.

He put pen to paper on new terms, but Barnes believes that the Uruguayan's future on Merseyside is still doubtful.

"Liverpool need to finish in the top four to have any chance of holding on to Suarez," he told talkSPORT. "That's not to say though that, by qualifying for the Champions League, he will definitely stay.

"He's signed a new contract but, even if they finish fourth, if Real Madrid come in [then he'll leave]. I would love him to stay but I can't say hand on heart that he will in the summer."

Suarez's new contract is reported to be worth around £200,000 a week.
