Liverpool have reportedly made an enquiry to Benfica regarding the availability of centre-back Francisco Reis Ferreira.
The 21-year-old, more commonly known as Ferro, is under contract with the Portuguese giants until 2023 and has a €100m (£85m) release clause inserted in his contract.
Ferro has only made four league starts for Benfica, however, and the Reds are hoping to snap him up for a far smaller fee.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, Liverpool had an offer knocked back by Benfica in 2017 but they recently made a fresh approach.
However, it is claimed that the Eagles' stance has not changed and they are not willing to sell a player of huge potential to Liverpool just yet.
Ferro has been capped eight times by Portugal at Under-21s level and has switched between Benfica's first and second teams this season, scoring on his first start for the seniors in February's 10-0 win over Nacional.
