Manchester City are reportedly braced for a proposal that would see Sergio Aguero leave the club in exchange for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

Manchester City are reportedly considering a proposal that would see the club's Sergio Aguero leave this summer in exchange for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

The 29-year-old spent five seasons with Atletico - scoring 74 goals in 175 La Liga appearances - before moving to City in 2011 in a £38m deal. Since then he has won two Premier League titles and two League Cups and has also become the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

According to The Sun, Aguero's representatives have been sounded out about a potential return to the Spanish capital at the end of the season in a move that would see him link up with Diego Costa, who officially joined the club this month.

Griezmann, meanwhile, has been heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United for more than a year, although the Red Devils' capture of Alexis Sanchez is thought to have ended their interest in the Frenchman.

As a result Atletico are allegedly planning to offer Pep Guardiola's side the chance to take on Griezmann, who has a release clause of £85m at the end of the season, should they be willing to let Aguero leave.

"Atletico have contacted Sergio's representatives to see if there is any chance of getting him back," a source told the newspaper. "Pep doesn't want him to go, but has been looking at bringing in Antoine Griezmann, so there could be something there.

"Pep is a massive fan of him and his clause at the end of the season is a bargain for a player of his quality. City have made discreet enquiries over Griezmann in the past, so there is the interest from both sides."

Aguero is thought to have 18 months remaining on his current City contract and is valued at around £60m by the club.
