Manchester City assistant coach David Platt has insisted that new signing Jack Rodwell will be able to fulfil his potential with the Premier League champions.
The 21-year-old joined City from Everton over the weekend for around £15m.
"We feel we have the right platform here to develop his potential to the full," said Platt. "We've had an opportunity to take a player who we believe will be of benefit to us not only now, but in the future.
"When he first burst onto the scene, people said he had bags of potential. I don't think he has quite realised that potential yet."
The Blues begin the defence of their Premier League crown at home to Southampton on Sunday.
