Manchester United attacker Mason Mount is out of Thursday's EFL Cup fixture with Tottenham Hotspur, while Noussair Mazraoui is a doubt for the clash.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that Mason Mount is out of Thursday's EFL Cup quarter-final with Tottenham Hotspur, while Noussair Mazraoui is a doubt for the clash in North London.

Mount was substituted in the early stages of Sunday's Manchester derby with a muscular problem, and the playmaker has not recovered in time to be included against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There has also been concern surrounding Mazraoui's fitness, with the Morocco international substituted in the latter stages of what proved to be a 2-1 victory for the Red Devils over Man City.

Amorim has revealed that Mazraoui is a doubt for the cup fixture, with a final decision yet to be made.

"Mason Mount is not available," Amorim told MUTV after speaking at his press conference on Wednesday morning. "He has an injury. Nous, we will see today.

"The rest of the squad are ready to play the game. We have to assess all the players and try not to get a lot of injuries. If we do that, we'll be stronger in these kind of moments."

Luke Shaw is also absent with a hamstring issue, but Man United are otherwise in good shape, with Jonny Evans available again after a recent fitness issue.

There could also be returns to the squad for Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, who were not involved in the Manchester derby after not applying themselves correctly in training or behaving in the proper manner around Carrington ahead of the clash with Pep Guardiola's side.

Amorim has said that he will make a late decision on the pair's potential movement against Spurs.

"They are training, so we will see. We have one more training [session], like I said in the press conference, they are our players. We are better with them. If they cope with training and the engagement with teammates, they will be ready to play," he said.

Rashford suggested in an interview with journalist Henry Winter on Tuesday that he is ready to leave Man United in January, but Amorim responded by revealing his desire to keep hold of the Red Devils academy product.
